ESSIC Research Associate Alek Petty was invited to the 2015 New Generation Polar Researcher (NGPR) Leadership Symposium held May 2–9 on Catalina Island, California. The workshop was limited to scientists who completed their PhD between 1/1/2009 to 10/30/2014 who had polar research experience in any discipline. Petty was one of 37 scientists chosen to participate. Petty received his PhD in 2014 at the University College London (United Kingdom) and has been working with CICS-MD for the last two years on the changing dynamics of the Arctic sea ice cover using satellite and airborne observations.
